Welcome Dr. Fussell to Upson Family Physicians

Upson Regional Medical Center is pleased to welcome Corey Fussell, M.D. to Upson Family Physicians Thomaston location beginning August 5th.

Dr. Fussell practices family medicine and is committed to providing comprehensive health care to patients of all ages. Appointments are currently available to establish care to include pediatric, women’s health, bariatric and adult primary care. Dr. Fussell earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his family medicine residency at the University of Tennessee in Nashville.

Dr. Fussell is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and has additional training in advanced cardiovascular and pediatric life support.  He also was the recipient of the Physician Leadership and Advocacy Certificate and the Professional Promise Award, which honors undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate professional promise in teaching, research or other contributions. He is a Captain and family physician in the US Army Reserve and he is also working on a private pilot’s license.

Dr. Fussell and his wife, Meagan, are excited to join the Upson community. Meagan, who is also a family practice physician, will join him at Upson Family Physicians in October 2019.

“When my oldest friend Dr. John Jenkins invited me to Thomaston 3 years ago, I fell for the community right away. I loved the rolling hills, beautiful scenery, and warm people. I knew then that Thomaston would become my home. I am excited for this opportunity and feel blessed to help take care of the people in Upson County and surrounding areas,” said Fussell.

Dr. Donna M. Haney joins Upson Family Physicians

Upson Family Physicians welcomes back Dr. Donna M. Haney to their practice.

Haney was previously employed by Upson Regional Medical Center in 2000 before starting her own practice, Pike Family Medicine, where she has been in practice for 15 years.

“I am excited to be affiliated with Upson Regional Medical Center again because Upson provides quality medical care and I feel that I will be better able to provide quality care and additional services to my patients through this relationship,” said Haney.

Haney earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Berry College in Rome, GA and her medical degree from Mercer University in 1997. She completed her family medicine internship and residency at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, South Carolina. Haney is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

“Dr. Haney was born and raised in Pike County and her family is local. She has a vested interest in this community and its citizens and we are glad to have her back on board,” said Upson Physician Practice Administrator Jennifer Thompson.

Upson Cardiology welcomes Dr. Alexander V. Smolensky

Upson Cardiology is pleased to welcome cardiologist Dr. Alexander V. Smolensky to their practice.

Dr. Smolensky will serve alongside cardiologist Mark Dorogy, MD and his specialties are general cardiology, preventive and sports cardiology, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, critical care, cardiac imaging, vascular medicine, internal medicine, and congenital heart disease. Dr. Smolensky is board certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine.

Dr.  Smolensky is originally from Ukraine and earned his medical degree with honors from Dnepropetrovsk State Medical Academy in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine in 2002. He completed his cardiology fellowship at Emory University School of Medicine in 2014.

Dr. Smolensky has been in practice for almost 20 years. He previously practiced at Middle Georgia Heart and Vascular Center, LLC in Macon, GA and Madalyn N Davidoff, MD in Warner Robins, GA and was affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Coliseum Medical Centers, Navicent Health, Perry Hospital, Houston Medical Center, and Taylor Regional Hospital. He also currently serves as faculty in two residency programs through Emory University School of Medicine.

“We are very excited about the addition of Dr. Smolensky to our practice,” said cardiologist Mark Dorogy, MD. “Not only is his expertise valued but his addition will increase cardiology service availability in our community,” he added.

Dr. Smolensky currently resides in Byron, GA with his wife Olena and has two children, Andrew and Daniel.  “I am excited to serve patients in the Upson area for their cardiology needs,” he said.

Upson Cardiology welcomes Candice Young

Thomaston’s own Candice Young, nurse practitioner, has joined Upson Cardiology.

With almost 10 years of experience as a nurse, Young is dedicated, hard-working, and has proven ability to assess, treat, and educate patients and their families.

As a nurse practitioner, she will work alongside cardiologist Mark Dorogy, MD, to provide nursing care to patients with chronic and acute diseases. “I’ve always worked and lived in Upson County, and I love taking care of the community in which I was born and raised,” said Young.

Young graduated with a Master’s of Science in Nursing at South University. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at Gordon State College. Previously, she was a charge nurse in the Special Care Unit at Upson Regional Medical Center and a nurse practitioner at McIntosh Trail CSB.  Candice has two children, Stephanie and Cheyenne, and they reside in Thomaston.

“We are excited to have Candice on our team. Her years of experience in nursing and strong communication skills make her a great asset,” said Mark Dorogy, MD.

Welcome Monica Darty

Monica S. Darty, nurse practitioner, is now with Upson OB/GYN.

With almost 10 years of experience in nursing, Darty is excited to contribute to the health of women and children in our community.

She will work alongside Rhonda Brooks, WHNP, and supervising physicians Joy Baker, MD, and Nicolas Psomiadis, MD. “I am passionate about serving the women and children in this area,” said Darty.  “It’s close to home, and the patients already feel like family.”

Darty graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing/Family Nurse Practitioner from Troy State University. Previously, she worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Martin Army Community Hospital and the Muscogee County Health Department where she cared for many adult patients. She also was a Family Nurse Practitioner at Dr. Crandall Chambers’ OB/GYN office in Columbus, GA where she provided obstetrical, gynecological, and women’s health services. Monica has one child, Eli, and they reside in Columbus.

Dr. Baker and the OB/GYN team are thrilled to add another provider and improve access to women’s health care. “Monica brings a diverse skill set to our practice. As a former Labor & Delivery nurse and Family Nurse Practitioner, she is able to competently meet the needs of both pregnant and non-pregnant patients. Her passion for women’s health falls right in line with our mission to provide quality care and exceptional service,” said Dr. Baker.

Welcome Dr. Noguera

Upson Family Physicians welcomes Christina Huntley Noguera, M.D. to Upson. Dr. Noguera practices Family Medicine and is devoted to comprehensive care of all ages, with special interests in women’s health and pediatrics. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at Georgetown University-Providence Hospital in Washington D.C., and interned at Navicent Health in Macon in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Noguera earned her Doctorate of Medicine degree from Mercer University School of Medicine. Here she received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, which is given to one graduating medical student who demonstrates both clinical excellence and outstanding compassion in the delivery of care for patients, their families, and healthcare colleaguesShe completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Valdosta State University in 2008. Here, she received the American Association of University Women’s Award for intellectual talent and leadership.

Dr. Noguera is a native of Georgia as she grew up in Dublin and has family in Macon. She is married to Cristian Noguera. Dr. Noguera is fluent in Spanish, and has used her language skills during multiple medical mission trips to Central America, and has taught intermediate medical Spanish to fellow colleagues during medical school. She also speaks basic-intermediate Portuguese.
